The Leucillin First Aid Kit provides a compact set of essentials for on-the-go pet care — designed for dog walkers, owners who spend time outdoors, or anyone who wants basic emergency coverage to hand. The kit is built around a 30ml Leucillin Antiseptic Skincare bottle: a non-toxic, non-stinging antiseptic used widely by vets and groomers for wound cleaning, minor skin conditions, and post-injury care. Everything else covers the most common minor injury scenarios — wound dressing, tick removal, and basic bandaging — in a portable kit you can keep in a bag, car, or rucksack.

About Leucillin Antiseptic

Leucillin uses hypochlorous acid (HOCl) technology — the same antimicrobial chemistry the body's own immune cells produce to fight infection. Unlike alcohol-based or iodine-based antiseptics, it does not sting on application, is non-toxic if licked, and will not damage healthy tissue around a wound. It is safe for use on open wounds, around the eyes, in the ears, and on sensitive or inflamed skin. This is why it is widely recommended by vets and used in professional grooming environments.

When to reach for it

Minor cuts and grazes from walks or rough terrain. Tick removal and post-removal wound cleaning. Paw injuries or split nails. Immediate wound cleaning before a vet visit. Any situation where you need to clean, protect, and dress a minor injury before getting home or to professional care.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place. The Leucillin antiseptic bottle should be kept away from direct sunlight and extreme heat. Check contents periodically and replace any items that have been used or have passed their expiry date.

Leucillin is a UK-developed veterinary antiseptic brand used by vets, groomers, and pet owners across the country. Hairy Dogs stocks the Leucillin First Aid Kit as part of our selection of practical pet care essentials.

Common questions

What is Leucillin and how is it different from standard antiseptics?
Leucillin is a hypochlorous acid (HOCl) antiseptic. HOCl is the molecule the body's own white blood cells produce to destroy pathogens — making it highly effective against bacteria, viruses, and fungi while being completely safe for healthy tissue. Unlike alcohol or iodine antiseptics, it does not sting, does not damage the wound area, and is non-toxic if ingested — an important consideration for dogs, which will often lick an injured area. It is safe for use on open wounds, around the eyes and ears, and on inflamed or sensitive skin.
Is this kit suitable for cats and other pets as well as dogs?
Yes — the Leucillin antiseptic is safe for use on cats, horses, and most other animals as well as dogs. The physical first aid items (bandages, dressings, tick remover, gloves) are also suitable for use on any pet. The kit is marketed around dog care but nothing in it is dog-specific.
How do I remove a tick safely using the tick remover?
The kit includes a tick remover in two sizes to cover different tick sizes. Choose the size that fits around the tick, slide it under the body at the skin surface, and rotate slowly in one direction until the tick releases — do not pull or squeeze the body, as this can cause the tick to regurgitate into the wound. Once removed, clean the bite area with the Leucillin spray. Dispose of the tick safely and monitor the bite site for signs of irritation over the following days.
When should I use the tourniquet?
A tourniquet is a last-resort measure for severe, life-threatening bleeding from a limb that cannot be controlled with direct pressure and dressings alone. Apply it above the wound site, tighten until bleeding stops, note the time of application, and seek emergency veterinary care immediately. Do not use a tourniquet for minor wounds or as a precaution — it is an emergency tool only. The step-by-step instructions included in the kit provide guidance on correct application.
Does the Leucillin spray replace a visit to the vet?
No — this is a first aid kit, not a treatment kit. It is designed to provide immediate care to stabilise a minor injury, clean a wound, or manage a tick in the field before you can get your dog seen by a vet. For any wound that is deep, will not stop bleeding, shows signs of infection, or has been caused by a bite or significant trauma, seek veterinary attention promptly. First aid buys time — it does not replace professional assessment.
