Flavour

The Maks'Patch Break A Bar is a segmented vegan dog treat bar — 11.5cm long with natural break points that let you portion it precisely: a full bar for a long chew session, half as a moderate reward, or smaller segments for training use. Made from a sweet potato and pea flour base with real fruit and vegetable flavour ingredients, they are vegan, grain free, gluten free, and rawhide free. Sold individually, with multiple flavours available.

  • Breakable segment design: The bar has natural scoring along its length, making it easy to snap into consistently sized pieces with your fingers. This gives you more control over portion size than a standard stick or chew — full bar for chewing, half bar for a standard treat, small segments for high-repetition training without overfeeding.
  • 100% vegan and plant-based: No meat, no dairy, no animal products. Made from sweet potato flour and pea flour with real fruit and vegetable additions per flavour — the same base as the Maks'Patch Fruit & Veg Straws range, in a larger, more substantial bar format.
  • Multiple flavours: Available in Peanut Butter & Banana, Apple & Spinach, and Blueberry & Sweet Potato — colour-coded for easy identification. Each flavour uses the same base with 0.6% real fruit or vegetable ingredients for flavour distinction.
  • Grain free, gluten free, low fat, palm oil free: No cereal content, no palm oil, no added sugar. Hypoallergenic formula suitable for dogs with grain or meat protein sensitivities.
  • Natural plaque reduction: The chewing action on the bar texture helps reduce plaque and tartar build-up gradually over time.
  • Suitable for all sizes: At 11.5cm the bar is substantial enough for larger breeds as a whole, and the break-off segments make it appropriate for smaller breeds and puppies with supervision.

Common questions

How does the break-off segment design work?
The bar is scored along its length at natural break points — you snap it at a segment line with your fingers, similar to breaking a chocolate bar. The segments hold together cleanly rather than crumbling, making it easy to get consistent pieces for training. You can give the full bar for an extended chew, break off half as a standard treat, or snap off small segments for high-repetition training sessions.
How does this compare to the Fruit & Veg Straws?
Both use the same plant-based base and flavour palette. The Break A Bar is thicker and more substantial than the straw — a more filling chew for dogs that work through the straws quickly. The segment design makes it more flexible for portion control than the straw, which you can snap but doesn't have defined break points. The Straws are at 39p each, the Break A Bar at £1.35 — different sizes and textures for different treat contexts.
Are these suitable for dogs with meat or grain allergies?
Yes — there is no meat, no animal-derived protein, no grain, and no gluten. The Apple & Spinach and Blueberry & Sweet Potato flavours are also free from common allergens. The Peanut Butter & Banana flavour contains peanuts, which are a legume and a known allergen for some dogs — if your dog has a nut sensitivity, choose one of the other two flavours.
Are these suitable for puppies?
Suitable from 12 weeks. The bar is substantial at 11.5cm, so break it into appropriate segments for your puppy's size and always supervise. The plant-based soft texture is easier on developing teeth than harder chews, and the low fat content makes it a lighter treat option for puppies compared to richer meat-based alternatives.
Why is the xylitol-free label important for peanut butter?
Xylitol is a sweetener sometimes added to reduced-sugar and natural peanut butters. Even small amounts are highly toxic to dogs — causing rapid blood sugar drops and potential liver failure. The peanut butter in these bars contains no xylitol. This is worth knowing for any owner who also gives their dog human-grade peanut butter, where xylitol should always be checked on the label before use.
