Fruit & Veg Straws are 14cm plant-based chew treats available in three flavours — Peanut Butter & Banana, Apple & Spinach, and Blueberry & Sweet Potato. Made on a base of sweet potato flour and pea flour with real fruit and vegetable ingredients added per flavour, they are vegan, grain free, gluten free, rawhide free, and palm oil free. Sold individually at 39p or broken into shorter pieces for training rewards. The peanut butter used is xylitol free — a critical detail, since xylitol is highly toxic to dogs and is sometimes present in commercial peanut butter products.

  • Fully vegan and plant-based: No meat, no animal products, no rawhide. A useful treat option for vegan households, dogs on exclusion diets where meat proteins have been ruled out, or owners who prefer plant-based treat choices.
  • Three flavours, colour-coded: Tan — Peanut Butter & Banana. Green — Apple & Spinach. Purple — Blueberry & Sweet Potato. Each uses the same base with 0.6% of the named fruit and vegetable ingredients added per flavour.
  • Xylitol-free peanut butter: The peanut butter in the Peanut Butter & Banana variant contains no xylitol. Xylitol is a sweetener found in some human-grade peanut butters that is highly toxic to dogs — the xylitol-free labelling matters and is worth noting for anyone who also gives their dog peanut butter from other sources.
  • 14cm straw format: Large enough to give whole as a chew, or snap into shorter pieces for use as training treats. The straw shape makes portioning straightforward and gives dogs something to grip.
  • Grain free, gluten free, low fat, palm oil free: No cereal content, no palm oil, no added sugar. Suitable from 12 weeks.

Common questions

Are these genuinely 100% vegan?
Yes — all three flavours are fully plant-based. The base uses sweet potato flour, pea flour, vegetable glycerin, brewers yeast, calcium carbonate, coconut oil, and vegetable oil. The flavour additions are real fruit and vegetable ingredients. No meat, no fish, no eggs, no dairy, no animal-derived gelatine, and no rawhide.
Why does the xylitol-free label matter for peanut butter?
Xylitol is a sweetener commonly added to reduced-sugar and some natural peanut butters marketed to humans. In dogs, even small amounts of xylitol can cause a rapid drop in blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) and potentially liver failure — it is one of the more acutely dangerous foods for dogs. The peanut butter used in these straws contains no xylitol. This is worth knowing for any owner who also gives their dog human-grade peanut butter, where xylitol presence should always be checked on the label.
Are these suitable for dogs with meat protein allergies?
These treats contain no meat or animal-derived protein, which makes them useful for dogs that react to meat-based treats. However, the Peanut Butter & Banana variant contains peanuts (0.6%), which are a legume and a known allergen for some dogs. The Apple & Spinach and Blueberry & Sweet Potato flavours are free from common allergens and may be the more appropriate choice for dogs with multiple sensitivities. For dogs on a strict veterinary elimination diet, check with your vet before introducing any new treat, including plant-based ones.
Can I use these for training?
Yes — the straw can be snapped into shorter sections for training use, giving multiple reward pieces from a single 39p straw. The straw shape holds together when snapped rather than crumbling, making it practical for a treat bag or pocket. The Peanut Butter & Banana flavour tends to be the highest-value option for dogs motivated by smell.
Are these suitable for puppies?
Suitable from 12 weeks. The straw format is firmer than a soft treat but breaks down with chewing. For younger puppies, snap the straw into smaller sections appropriate for their size and always supervise. The plant-based composition makes these gentle on developing digestive systems compared to richer meat-based treats.
The Blueberry & Sweet Potato flavour already has sweet potato in the base — what's different?
The base uses standard sweet potato flour as a structural ingredient across all three flavours. The Blueberry & Sweet Potato variant adds purple sweet potato flour (0.6%) — a different variety with a deeper colour and slightly different nutritional profile — which gives that flavour its distinctive purple appearance alongside the dried blueberry. The two are the same vegetable but different cultivars.
