Enjoy calmer, more relaxing walks with the Ancol Nylon Dog Training Halter. This gentle head collar gives you steering control over a dog that pulls: when they lunge forward, the halter simply turns their head to the side, taking the momentum out of the pull without choking or hurting them — so you can guide their attention back to you. It's a kind, effective way to take the strain out of walks.

The nose loop has a sliding keeper for a snug, comfortable fit, while the head loop has an adjuster buckle for security and a quick-release buckle for fuss-free on and off — handy for dogs still getting used to wearing a halter. A metal O-ring takes your lead, and the included safety link clips to your dog's collar so you stay in control even if they manage to slip the halter.

Made from strong, weatherproof nylon that's smooth and flexible against the coat, it's built to last walk after walk.

Important: a head halter is a training and control aid, not a muzzle — your dog can still pant, drink, eat and carry toys while wearing it. Introduce it gradually, use it with a normal lead (not an extending/flexi lead), and guide gently rather than jerking the lead.

  • Gently stops pulling: Turns the head to the side instead of choking the neck.
  • Sliding nose keeper: Adjusts for a snug, comfortable fit on the muzzle.
  • Quick-release & adjuster buckles: Easy on and off, plus a secure custom fit.
  • Safety link included: Clips to the collar so you keep control as backup.
  • Strong nylon: Weatherproof, smooth and flexible for lasting comfort.

Size guide

Size Ancol size Best suited to
Small Sizes 1–2 Smaller breeds
Medium Sizes 3–4 Medium breeds
X-Large Sizes 7–9 Large & giant breeds

Fit matters for both comfort and control, so if your dog is between sizes it's worth measuring before you choose.

Getting started

Introduce the halter slowly and positively. Let your dog sniff it and reward with treats, fit the nose loop comfortably high on the muzzle (well away from the eyes) and snug but with room to pant, then adjust the head loop behind the ears. Clip the safety link to the collar, keep the first few sessions short and rewarding, and always guide gently rather than pulling sharply.

Ancol is an established British pet brand, stocked at Hairy Dogs.

Common questions

Is this a muzzle?
No. It's a head collar for steering and reducing pulling. Your dog can still pant, drink, eat and carry toys while wearing it, and it doesn't stop biting — so it isn't a muzzle and shouldn't be used as one.
How is it different from a harness?
A harness sits on the body, while a head halter sits on the head and gently turns it when your dog pulls — which gives extra control with strong or determined pullers. Some owners use a halter for training and a harness day to day.
Will my dog mind wearing it?
Many dogs need a little time to adjust to something on their nose. Introduce it gradually with treats and short, positive sessions and most dogs settle happily — rushing it is the usual reason a dog dislikes a halter.
How do I choose the right size?
Use the size guide above as a starting point. Because a good fit matters for comfort and control, if you're unsure or your dog is between sizes, measure the nose and head and get in touch and we'll help you choose.
