Barret Bear is the ball-and-rope toy in the Miro & Makauri eco range — structurally different from the character plush toys in the range, and suited to a different set of play styles. The bear-head leather ball (9 × 9cm) is attached to a 30cm natural rope, making it practical for throwing, fetching, rope tug games, and water retrieval in a way that a standalone soft toy isn't. Same natural materials as the rest of the range: genuine leather, coconut-fibre filling, vegetable dyes, no squeaker. At £9.95 it's also the most accessible price point in the Miro & Makauri toy range.

  • Ball-and-rope format — versatile play: The rope handle makes this toy practical for throwing and fetching in a way a standalone plush character isn't. The rope gives the owner a comfortable throwing grip, extends the throwing distance without needing to touch a slobbery ball, and provides the dog with something to bring back and carry. For rope tug games the 30cm length is long enough for sustained two-person engagement without risk of fingers near teeth.
  • Genuine leather bear-head ball at 9 × 9cm: The ball element is leather-covered with coconut-fibre filling — a satisfying size for most breeds to carry, mouth, and retrieve. Play suggestions

Throwing and fetch, rope tug games, carrying and shaking. The rope handle is useful for water retrieves where you prefer not to handle a wet ball directly. Can also be used as a reward toy during training — throw for a dog that is ball-motivated as a play reward for recall or other commands.

Care and safety

Spot clean with a damp cloth and allow to air dry naturally. Do not machine wash, soak, or tumble dry. The rope and leather will deteriorate faster if regularly saturated — allow to dry thoroughly after water play. Always supervise play and remove if the rope frays significantly or the ball becomes damaged.

How does this differ from the other Miro & Makauri toys?
Barret Bear is the only ball-and-rope toy in the range — the others (Horace Hedgehog, Kelvin Koala, Carlos Capybara, Scottie Squid) are all standalone character toys without a rope component. The rope makes Barret better for throwing, fetch, and water games, while the character toys are better for carry play, shaking, and tug games where both dog and owner hold the toy directly. Is the 9cm ball size suitable for my dog?
At 9 × 9cm the ball is a practical fetch size for medium to large breeds. For small breeds, check whether a 9cm ball is appropriately sized for your specific dog — as a general rule, a ball should be large enough that it cannot be swallowed but small enough to carry comfortably. For very large breeds that might try to swallow a ball this size, supervision is advisable. The rope element means the ball is less likely to be carried independently than a loose ball toy.
Is it suitable for water play?
Yes, with some care. The natural materials — leather and rope — will tolerate water play, and the rope handle makes it easy to throw into water without getting wet yourself.
