Milo Monkey is a long-format eco leather tug toy from Miro & Makauri — made from genuine leather with natural jute rope and coconut-fibre filling, coloured with vegetable dyes. At 40cm it's one of the larger toys in the range, built for tug play with plenty of length for both dog and owner to grip. Available in two colourways, Green and Rust. No squeaker, no synthetic materials, no plastic components.

Made by Miro & Makauri. Natural materials throughout. Built for interactive tug and tossing play.

  • Genuine leather with natural jute rope: Like the Scottie Squid, Milo Monkey combines a leather body with jute rope — a strong, plant-based fibre that adds a contrasting texture and gives high tensile strength for tug play. The leather and jute combination is durable and engaging, holding up to pulling and twisting better than synthetic fabric toys.
  • 40cm length — built for tug: The extended length means both you and your dog have plenty to grip during tug games, keeping hands well away from teeth. The length also makes it satisfying to throw and easy for a dog to pick up and carry. One of the longer, more substantial toys in the Miro & Makauri range.
  • 100% natural coconut-fibre filling: Natural coconut husk fibre rather than synthetic stuffing. Non-toxic and biodegradable — what's inside is plant-based, so if the toy is eventually breached through heavy play there's no polyester wadding to deal with.
  • Vegetable dyes: No industrial chemical dyes. The colour comes from vegetable-based dyes — relevant for dogs that mouth and chew their toys, since whatever is on the surface ends up being ingested in small amounts.
  • No squeaker: No plastic noise component to work free and swallow, and no high-arousal auditory stimulus. Milo Monkey's appeal comes from texture, length, and the interactive tug dynamic.
  • Two colourways: Available in Green and Rust — choose from the dropdown above. Both are coloured with vegetable dyes and identical in construction; the choice is purely aesthetic.

Care and safety

Spot clean with a damp cloth and allow to air dry naturally. Do not machine wash, soak, or tumble dry — leather deteriorates if saturated and jute degrades faster when repeatedly wet. Always supervise play and remove if the rope frays significantly or parts become loose. Not designed for dogs that systematically destroy toys; for power chewers, use short supervised sessions and rotate with more robust options.

Common questions

How does Milo Monkey compare to the other Miro & Makauri toys?
Milo Monkey and Scottie Squid are the two long-format tug toys in the range, both at around 40cm with leather and jute rope construction — built for tug play with plenty of length to grip. The difference is mostly character (monkey vs squid) and that Milo comes in two colourways. The mid-size toys (Kelvin Koala and Carlos Capybara at 26 × 13cm) and the compact Horace Hedgehog (20cm) are character carry/toss toys without the jute rope, while Barret Bear is a ball-and-rope fetch toy. If your dog loves tug games with plenty of length, Milo Monkey or Scottie Squid are the strongest choices in the range.
What's the difference between the Green and Rust colours?
Purely aesthetic — both colourways are identical in construction, materials, and size. Both are coloured using vegetable dyes. Choose whichever you prefer from the dropdown. As these are natural-material toys with vegetable dyes, exact shade may vary slightly between individual toys, which is a characteristic of natural materials rather than a defect.
Is it suitable for chewers?
For moderate chewers and tug players, yes — the leather and jute construction is durable for interactive play. Milo Monkey is designed primarily as a tug toy rather than a dedicated chew, so dogs that systematically destroy toys will work through it faster than intended. For power chewers, supervised sessions and rotation with tougher chew toys is the sensible approach. If breached, the coconut-fibre filling is natural and non-toxic.
Does it squeak?
No — no squeaker by design, in keeping with the whole Miro & Makauri eco toy range. No plastic inserts of any kind. This makes it quieter, removes the swallowing risk associated with squeakers, and suits dogs and households that prefer calmer play.
