Life of Riley's Minty Dental Sticks are a vegan, grain-free dental treat designed to support daily oral hygiene in dogs. Unlike most dental treats on the market, which use animal-derived binding agents, these are made entirely from plant-based ingredients — suitable for dogs on hypoallergenic or vegan-friendly diets, and those with chicken, meat, or grain sensitivities.

The stick shape provides a mechanical cleaning action as your dog chews, while mint and parsley work together to freshen breath naturally. Handmade by Life of Riley in the UK from 100% natural ingredients with no artificial additives or preservatives, and packaged in home-compostable, plastic-free pouches.

  • Vegan and grain-free: Made entirely from plant-based ingredients — no meat, no fish, no grain. Well suited to dogs with sensitivities, hypoallergenic diets, or owners choosing plant-based options where possible.
  • Supports daily dental hygiene: The stick format encourages chewing, which helps reduce plaque and tartar build-up over time. Mint and parsley both provide evidence-backed natural breath-freshening properties.
  • Contains spirulina: A nutrient-dense algae naturally rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds — an unusual but beneficial addition to a dental treat.
  • No artificial additives: 100% natural composition. No artificial colours, flavours, or preservatives.
  • Home-compostable, plastic-free packaging: Life of Riley use sustainable packaging as standard — the pouches are home-compostable and entirely plastic-free.
  • Nutritionist approved: Formulated to support canine health as well as palatability.

Feeding guidance

Suitable for dogs of all breeds from 12 weeks. Feed as part of a daily dental routine — one stick per day is recommended for most dogs. Always supervise your dog when feeding treats and ensure fresh water is available. This is a complementary food, not a complete diet.

Note: Contains peanut butter. If your dog has a known nut sensitivity, check with your vet before feeding. Coconut is well tolerated by most dogs but introduce gradually if feeding for the first time.

Life of Riley Bakery Ltd is a small UK-based dog bakery producing handmade, natural treats. Hairy Dogs stocks Life of Riley as part of our curated range of natural, ethical treat brands.

Common questions

Are dental sticks actually effective?
The mechanical action of chewing a dental stick does help reduce plaque and tartar build-up over time when used consistently. Mint and parsley both have evidence-based properties as natural breath fresheners in dogs. For serious dental disease, dental sticks supplement rather than replace professional cleaning — but as a daily maintenance habit they're a practical and well-accepted tool, and most dogs are far more receptive to them than toothbrushing.
Why choose a vegan dental stick over a standard one?
Most dental sticks use gelatin or animal-derived binding agents. Life of Riley's are fully plant-based — making them a strong option for dogs with meat, fish, or chicken sensitivities, dogs on elimination diets, or owners who prefer plant-based products where possible. They're also grain-free, giving them a broader application than most dental treat ranges.
Is peanut butter safe for dogs?
Yes — peanut butter is generally safe for dogs and is widely used in natural dog treats. The critical exception is any peanut butter containing xylitol, which is toxic to dogs. Life of Riley's recipe uses natural peanut butter without xylitol. If your dog has a known peanut allergy, these treats should be avoided.
What is gram flour and is it grain-free?
Gram flour (chickpea flour) is made from ground chickpeas — a legume, not a grain. It is gluten-free and grain-free, and is a common base ingredient in grain-free dog biscuits and treats. It provides structure, a moderate protein content, and is generally well tolerated by dogs with grain sensitivities or coeliac-type conditions.
