A slip lead and gentle head loop in one. The Miro & Makauri Regular Grip figure-8 slip lead goes straight over your dog's head like a standard slip lead — no clips, no collar needed — and the second loop of the figure-8 sits softly over the nose, giving you headcollar-style steering for dogs that pull. A sliding stopper lets you set how far the loops can close, so the lead won't keep tightening down.

  • Figure-8 design — neck loop plus a soft nose loop, guiding the head rather than pulling against the throat.
  • Slip-on — goes straight over the head, no clip or collar needed.
  • Sliding stopper — set how far the loops close, so they don't over-tighten.
  • Soft, durable rope — gentle across the nose, built for daily walks, with a classic rope handle.
  • Two thicknesses — 10mm for smaller dogs, 13mm for larger or stronger dogs; lengths 120–150cm. Four colours.

Why a figure-8?

When a dog pulls on a figure-8 lead, the nose loop gently eases their head round rather than letting them power forward from the shoulders — the same principle as a headcollar. For many dogs that makes walks calmer with only light contact on the lead. Introduce it gradually and positively, letting your dog get used to the nose loop with treats before the first walk.

Fit & safety

Set the stopper so the neck loop sits comfortably high on the neck and the nose loop rests softly over the muzzle — snug enough to stay in place, never tight. Your dog can still pant, drink and take treats with it fitted correctly; it's a walking and training aid, not a muzzle, and shouldn't be left on unattended or used to tie a dog up. Use light, gentle lead contact rather than sharp pulls, keep walks supervised, and check the rope, stitching and stopper for wear — replace the lead if anything is frayed. For constant heavy pullers over long walks, a well-fitted harness is a kind alternative to rotate in.

Prefer a cushioned handle? See the Rubber Grip Figure-8 Slip Lead — or for a straight slip lead with reflective threading, the Rubber Grip Reflective Slip Lead. Both from the Miro & Makauri rope range, stocked at Hairy Dogs.

Common questions

How is this different from a normal slip lead?
A standard slip lead is one loop around the neck. The figure-8 adds a second, soft loop over the nose, so pulling turns the head gently rather than loading the neck — headcollar-style steering built into a slip lead.
Is it a muzzle? Can my dog still pant and drink?
It's not a muzzle — fitted correctly, the nose loop rests softly and your dog can pant, drink, sniff and take treats as normal. It simply gives you gentle steering when there's tension on the lead.
What's the difference between this and the Rubber Grip version?
The lead itself is the same figure-8 design — the Rubber Grip version adds a soft rubber sleeve on the handle for extra cushioning, while this Regular Grip version has a classic all-rope handle. Choose whichever feels better in your hand.
10mm or 13mm?
10mm is lighter, for smaller and medium dogs; 13mm is stronger, for larger or stronger dogs. The 120cm length keeps big dogs closer; 150cm gives a little more freedom.
How do I introduce it?
Gradually and positively — let your dog sniff it, reward them for wearing the nose loop for a few seconds at home, and build up before the first proper walk. A calm introduction makes all the difference.
